RETREATS

{re}TREAT YOURSELF IN 2019

We are very excited to offer THREE RETREATS in 2019 — two at the beautiful OREGON COAST in March and November and one in stunning  TUSCANY, ITALY in May.

Our theme this year is {re}Treat Yourself because we’ve started to notice how very much we all need a chance to rest. A chance for respite. A chance for renewal and time dedicated to self-care and fun. As in, treat yourself… then treat yourself again… that’s why these retreats exist. See what we did there?

“Re” as in “again?” ReTreat.

“Re” as in “regarding?” RE:Treat.

And, of course, “retreat,” as in “withdraw from the world because DEAR GOD WE NEED REFUGE for a little while.” I mean, right? Yes, right.

So without further ado, here are the details for how to {re}Treat Yourself in 2019.

{re)TREAT YOURSELF
in
TUSCANY, ITALY
May 21-29, 2019

THAT’S RIGHT! Tuscany, ITALY, friends. We’ve been toying with this idea for some time — capitalizing on our extensive travel experience to bring you along on a once-in-a-lifetime vacation. We’ll be staying at a stunning villa in the heart of wine country, lounging by a pool overlooking the countryside, taking day trips to places like Florence, Siena, and Mediterranean beaches, and dining together in the evenings on food fresh from the market and wine sourced nearby. We’re thrilled it’s finally time!

OUR LOCATION: Tuscany, Italy. I CANNOT EVEN STAND IT.

GROUP SIZE: 12 maximum, including 3 staff members

INCLUDED: Your retreat includes 8 nights lodging, daily European continental breakfast (pastries, breads, meats, cheeses, fruit, yogurt, coffee), beverages, wine, optional day trips to places like Florence and Siena, ground transportation to/from all group activities, and group dinners catered by our very own Maggie Peterson.

YOU’RE ON YOUR OWN FOR: 1. Transportation to/from the retreat. We are happy to provide assistance booking airfare and/or ground transportation to/from the retreat upon request. 2. Museum and other attraction entry fees. 3. Lunches (because we don’t want you to miss out on dining at the local trattorias on the day trips!)

ACCOMMODATIONS: We will be staying at an incredible winery with breathtaking views of Tuscany in the Chianti area (wine region) of Italy. This is a known location where staff have stayed previously and are excited to share with you! Complete with historical winery tour and gorgeous pool, our beautiful rooms are located in a renovated farmhouse and old stone church. Each room can accommodate up to 2 people. Baths are located across the hall, each shared by 2 rooms.

RATE: $2,750 for the first guest per room, and $1,500 for the second guest per room. (Prices are listed in US Dollars.)

HOW TO REGISTER:
1. Email Maggie Peterson, retreat registrar, at petersonm1@spu.edu
2. Indicate which retreat you’d like to attend (i.e. ITALY!)
3. Provide your name and let us know if you have any questions
.

PLEASE NOTE: We are unable to accommodate food allergies/sensitivities on the Italy retreat.

{re}TREAT YOURSELF
at the
OREGON COAST
MARCH 7-10, 2019*
NOVEMBER 7-10, 2019*

* {re}Treat Yourself events at the Oregon Coast last three nights.
(A fourth night is optional for an additional fee. See more information below.)

We’re doing a FUN THING with the {re}Treat Yourself theme this year, combining all the elements participants have loved at past retreats into one cohesive experience.

There will be fantastic fresh food, a welcoming community, a relaxing environment, ample opportunities for both down time and planned activities, and expert guidance in topical sessions about Mindfulness with Heidi Hopkins and Discovering our Inherent Worthiness with Melanie Springer Mock. (There will also quite possibly be naked hot tubbing, questionable language, and stories with WAY too much personal information because Beth Woolsey isn’t very socially appropriate, but they keep letting her come anyway. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) A sample schedule is below.

Truly everything about the retreat was shocking in how incredible it was. Location, people, food, the balance of sessions and free time, the love and sincerity of everyone there. I would go again in a second and recommend it to anyone.

OUR LOCATION: Waldport, Oregon Coast

GROUP SIZE: 22 participants maximum + 6 staff

INCLUDED: Your retreat includes all group sessionslodging, meals, beverages, wine, WiFi, linens, activities, and more.

ACCOMMODATIONS: We will be staying on the Oregon Coast south of Newport at a gorgeous 8-bedroom, 6-bath house with panoramic views. With ocean vistas, comfortable meeting spaces, a media room, expansive decks, library, multiple living spaces, a hot tub and fire pit looking at the Pacific Ocean, and meals prepared for us on-site, paired with wine, these are retreats to remember.

STAFF BIOS

beth-equals-boss-099RETREAT FACILITATOR: Beth Woolsey is the writer and humorist behind the BethWoolsey.com blog where she writes frequently about raising 5 kids, magic in the mess, grace in the grime, pee and Jesus, but not usually at the same time. She’s been described by readers as “optimistic, authentic, poignant and laugh-out-loud funny” and she was named one of Sheknows.com’s Top Five Moms Who Will Make You Laugh Out Loud. Beth is INCREDIBLY excited to add an international retreat destination in 2019 to ITALY, capitalizing on her extensive international travel experience to 5 continents and over 50 countries. Beth’s true passion lies in creating authentic communities full of imperfect people. She loves wild truths and unreasonable grace, and she’s really far too loud for polite society.

RMaggieETREAT REGISTRAR and CATERER: Maggie Peterson is a friendly and energetic graduate of Seattle Pacific University with a Bachelor of Arts in French and Francophone Studies. In addition to her work as retreat registrar, Maggie manages high end, oceanfront, vacation rentals on the Oregon Coast, including the one we use for the retreats! She loves good food, international travel, being outside, getting rowdy, and investing in people in her community, so enjoy her youthful presence and don’t be intimidated by her friendly approach to bonding.

petersonRETREAT FACILITATOR: Polly Peterson is an Assistant Professor of English at George Fox University and a playwright. From Newberg, Oregon, Polly pursues stories because she believes every person is valuable and has something important to say. She takes a holistic approach to writing instruction, caring as much about what the writer wants to say as how she says it, and she’s an accomplished small group leader, putting people at ease and ensuring the whole group receives the benefit of each individual contribution.

MelanieSpringerMock“WORTHY” SESSION LEADER: Melanie Springer Mock is a Professor of English at George Fox University, Newberg, Ore. In 2009, she won the GFU Undergraduate Faculty of the Year award. She is the author or co-author of five books, including most recently Worthy: Finding Yourself in a World Expecting Someone Else, released in April 2017. Her essays and reviews have appeared in The Nation, Christian Feminism Today, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and Mennonite World Review, among other places. Her primary interests include making her 15-year-old sons spend time with her, watching good (that is, awful) reality television, and drinking Diet Coke.

IMG_4730MINDFULNESS SESSION LEADER: Heidi Hopkins has been studying, practicing, and supporting others in contemplative practice for the last 15 years. She graduated with BA in Human Biology from Stanford University and has been fascinated by the brain and body ever since. Heidi has trained in a variety of settings since college, most recently with Richard Rohr in the Living School for Action and Contemplation and with Mindful Schools in their year long certification program. She currently teaches mindfulness to public school students and works in one on one and group settings with adults and youth. You can read more about mindfulness and Heidi here. Heidi is humbled by her own ongoing need for mindfulness and heartened by the fruits of daily practice. She looks forward to learning and practicing with you!
